A place is different for each observer according to his or her understanding and experience – so all places are interpreted by our heads and hearts, and are subject to cultural and personal filtering. What forms the spirit/essence of a place? What connects us? Are there universals? How does this play out in living your life, given that you must utilize Earth’s resources in some manner in order to live? We’ll discuss these questions through poetry recitations, readings, personal stories, and group interactions and reflections. Suggested offering $15.00. Register by 11 a.m., Monday, August 29.

Presenter: Karen Kappell, FSPA

Using a natural cleaner called Citra Solv, we will transform images of magazine pages into papers that stir the imagination and produce pages that are usable in a number of ways. You will need to bring an older issue of National Geographic Magazine (the printing ink used is right for the process), one that has rich colored photos in it, a glass container, watercolor paper 11×14-in., a cheap 2-in. foam brush, paper towels and some elders glue.

Fee: $30.00. Bring a lunch. Register by Friday, May 20.
