IONS: SCIENCE AND SPIRITUALITY

Noetic science means inner/intuitive knowing. The gatherings explore scientific findings and wisdom traditions to expand our understanding of consciousness and questions such as “who am I” and “who are we.” All are welcome to one or more gatherings. Suggested offering $10.00.

LENTEN DAY OF REFLECTION

March 3 – Saturday
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

For many years, observing Lent meant the heightened practices of fasting, prayer and almsgiving. These ancient spiritual practices, which come from various faith traditions, are most often seen as denials or deprivations rather than as opportunities or gifts. Come and explore the often overlooked benefits of fasting, prayer and almsgiving for ourselves and our world. Suggested offering $30.00 (includes program and lunch). Register by Monday, February 26.

WATERCOLOR: PAINTING CROCUS

March 5 – Monday
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Presenter: Karen Kappell, FSPA
Using a variety of Japanese Rice paper and watercolors and inks, we will create a painting of crocus emerging from a snow covered terrain. Bring paints, brushes, 300# watercolor paper or stretched half sheet watercolor paper and photos of crocus. Supplies will be available if you do not have them and want to participate. The rice paper will be provided. Fee: $30.00. Bring a lunch. Register by Monday, February 26.

WATERCOLOR: PAINTING USING JAPANESE MESA PAPER

March 6 -Tuesday
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Presenter: Karen Kappell, FSPA
Mesa Paper fractures color into a beautiful network of lines similar to those used in batik. We will use the paper to create a painting of leaves or flowers and a second of landscape with trees. Bring a half sheet of stretched cold- pressed watercolor paper on which to mount the mesa paper. Also bring photos of the subjects, paints and brushes. Fee: $30.00. Bring a lunch. WATERCOLOR: WAYS OF PRESERVING WHITES Using a Pouring Technique

March 7 – Wednesday
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Presenter: Karen Kappell, FSPA
There are multiple ways of saving whites when using a pouring technique with water color paints. We will cover a variety of ways by creating small samples and then move to create a larger painting using some of them. A field of wild flowers makes a good subject for this painting. Bring a stretched half sheet of Hot pressed water color paper and smaller sheets for the samples. If you are attending any of the above classes you will have the opportunity to prepare the stretched paper the day before. Fee: $30.00. Bring a lunch. Register by Monday, February 26.

A LENTEN DAY OF SOLITUDE

March 7 – Wednesday 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Facilitators: Pat Pintens and Julia Walsh, FSPA
Jesus often went off alone to spend time with his Father. Lent is the perfect time for a day of solitude, a time to pause, reflect, recharge, spend time alone with God listening for God’s voice and resting in God’s presence. Participants will gather briefly to begin and end the day in prayer. The remainder of the day is on your own. You will have a private room, a simple meal at noon, an opportunity for a massage or to meet with a spiritual director. Contact Susan for information regarding massages or spiritual direction. Suggested offering $25.00. Register by Friday, March 2.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

March 8 – Thursday 9:30-11:00 a.m.

International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political in both developed and developing countries. Come join in the program, celebrating women. Enjoy light refreshments afterwards. Suggested offering $5.00. Register by Friday, March 2.

UKRAINIAN EGGS

March 20 – Tuesday
9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Guest Presenters: Gemma Lamb and Jeannine Laibly
Learn the old world tradition of Pysanky. Ukrainian eggs are a style in which patterns are created using a method that involves applying melted beeswax to an egg before dying. The wax protects the shell from the dye, allowing a layered effect of color to be achieved. Required materials are provided and additional materials will be available for purchase at a minimal fee. Suggested Donation: $30.00. Bring a lunch. Register by Tuesday, March 13.

PRAYING THE PSALMS

March 21 – Wednesday
9:30-11:30 a.m.
Presenter: Marla Lang, FSPA
The psalms have a way of opening us up to the wonder and mystery of our experiences with God. Our many needs can be found in the psalms: praise, thanks, sorrow, lament, petition, longing and more. Come join us this Lent, in unpacking and praying our human experiences nestled in the psalms. Suggested offering $10.00 + bring a friend. Register by Wednesday, March 19.

WRITERS GROUP

March 22 – Thursday
(fourth Thursday of each month – see also January 25, February 22, and April 26)
12:00-2:00 p.m.
Facilitator: Julia Walsh, FSPA
Writers of every level and genre are welcome to join this newly forming group. Bring your lunch and a copy of your writing for feedback (1- 4 pages). Be ready for a robust conversation among a supportive community that will enrich your work as a writer. Suggested offering $5.00 each session. Register by Wednesday, March 21.
