Mixed Media: Collage
November 10, 11, & 12
Join us for a dynamic three-day exploration into the art of mixed media collage. Each session will build on the last as we layer color, texture, and natural materials to create richly expressive works of art.
Day 1 – Painted Papers & Abstract Collage
We’ll begin by creating vibrant, textured papers using bleeding tissue techniques. These handmade papers will then be arranged into abstract or expressive collages and sealed with matte medium. Participants can mount their collages on heavy watercolor paper, canvas, or board. Please bring a mounting surface, scissors, paper towels, and regular Elmer’s glue. All other materials will be provided.
Day 2 – Floral Compositions with Mixed Media
Building on techniques from Day 1, we’ll create new papers or reuse previous ones to design floral-inspired compositions. These pieces will combine collage elements with watercolor for a harmonious blend of media. The same materials from Day 1 are needed.
Day 3 – Nature-Inspired Textural Collage
In our final session, we’ll explore how to incorporate delicate natural elements—such as flowers, leaves, grasses, and seeds—into our artwork. These items will be embedded onto a solid surface, sealed with rice paper, and enhanced with black paint and metallic rubs to emphasize texture. The finished pieces will be mounted on painted backdrops that echo elements of the collage design.
Whether you’re new to collage or looking to expand your mixed media skills, this workshop offers a hands-on, creative experience in an encouraging environment. To register, call Marywood at 715-385-3750 or email marywood.center@gmail.com.
